HOW ADMISSION WORKS

Apply to the Faculty, choose your Programme in Year 1

All undergraduate applicants enter through one broad-based JS code. In Year 1 you take introductory courses across the four Academies, meet your academic adviser twice, and then declare a Programme (major) for Years 2 to 4. High-demand Programmes allocate places on Year 1 results.

Chinese, History, Religion and Philosophy

Reading the Chinese-language world closely — its texts, its past and its moral arguments.

Department of Chinese Language and Literature

BA (Hons) in Chinese Language and Literature MAJOR · YEARS 2–4 Classical and modern literature, Cantonese and Putonghua linguistics, and writing for cultural work.

Department of History

BA (Hons) in History MAJOR · YEARS 2–4 Chinese, Hong Kong and world history, with archival and heritage fieldwork in the third year.

Department of Religion, Philosophy and Ethics

BA (Hons) in Religion, Philosophy and Ethics MAJOR · YEARS 2–4 Ethics, comparative religion and applied philosophy, including a practical ethics capstone.

Geography, Sociology and International Studies

Cities, societies and governance — taught with Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area as the working case study.

Department of Geography

BSocSc (Hons) in Geography MAJOR · YEARS 2–4 Urban, environmental and GIS streams, with a required field course.

Department of Sociology

BSocSc (Hons) in Sociology MAJOR · YEARS 2–4 Social research methods, inequality and family, media and migration. BSocSc (Hons) in China Studies MAJOR · YEARS 2–4 Interdisciplinary, with a semester of study or fieldwork on the mainland.

Department of Government and International Studies

BSocSc (Hons) in Government and International Studies MAJOR · YEARS 2–4 Comparative politics, public policy and international relations, with a Legislative Council or NGO internship option.

Language and Culture

Language as evidence and as craft — literary study, applied linguistics and professional translation.

Department of English Language and Literature

BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature MAJOR · YEARS 2–4 Literature, linguistics and creative writing, with an honours project in the final year.

Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies

BA (Hons) in Translation MAJOR · YEARS 2–4 Chinese–English translation and interpreting, with subtitling and legal translation electives.

Department of Humanities and Creative Writing

BA (Hons) in Humanities MAJOR · YEARS 2–4 Cultural studies across film, art and literature, with a curatorial or festival placement. BA (Hons) in Creative and Professional Writing MAJOR · YEARS 2–4 Fiction, script and non-fiction workshops taught alongside the Writers’ Workshops.

BEd (Hons) in Chinese Language and Literature MAJOR · 4 YEARS · TEACHER TRAINING Recognised for registration as a secondary school teacher; includes two teaching practicums. BEd (Hons) in English Language Teaching MAJOR · 4 YEARS · TEACHER TRAINING Language pedagogy with school-based practicum in Years 3 and 4.

Department of Social Work

BSocSc (Hons) in Social Work MAJOR · 4 YEARS · SWRB RECOGNISED Two supervised placements totalling 800 hours; qualifies for registration as a social worker. BSocSc (Hons) in Psychology MAJOR · YEARS 2–4 Research-methods intensive, with a laboratory-based honours project.

Department of Sport and Health Sciences

BSc (Hons) in Sport, Physical Education and Health MAJOR · 4 YEARS Exercise science, coaching and health promotion, with a community sport placement.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

How to apply

JUPAS APPLICANTS HKDSE 332A33 Chinese 3, English 3, Mathematics 2, Citizenship attained, and two electives at 3. Best five subjects are counted, with a weighting on languages.

NON-JUPAS AND INTERNATIONAL Direct application IB 26 points, GCE A-Level 3 passes, or an Associate Degree / Higher Diploma for senior-year entry. Interviews for shortlisted applicants.

KEY DATES Opens October 2026 Non-JUPAS main round closes in January; JUPAS follows the HKDSE timetable. Information days are held in October and March.
